Get to know Me!
About Ben Strom:
Music has been part of my life from the very beginning. Growing up in Sarasota, Florida, I first discovered my passion for music at Southside Elementary School. I also studied private piano lessons from the age of 5 through 18, an experience that deeply shaped both my musicianship and my understanding of what meaningful music education can look like for a student. From an early age, music became more than just a hobby it became the center of my education, creativity, and personal growth.
Throughout middle and high school, I attended Booker Middle School and Booker High School, where I was part of the Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) program. During those years, I performed in orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chamber groups while studying music theory, improvisation, and performance. I also played double bass with the Sarasota Youth Orchestra and performed in jazz quartets that played at weddings, private events, restaurants, and local venues throughout the Sarasota area.
After high school, I continued my musical education at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance. While studying at USF, I spent four years teaching private piano lessons to students of all ages and skill levels. During that time, I worked with everyone from complete beginners learning their very first notes to advanced students studying piano pedagogy, classical repertoire, technique, music theory, and performance preparation.
Teaching has become one of the most meaningful parts of my musical journey. I believe every student learns differently, and lessons should be designed around each individual’s goals, interests, and learning style. My goal is not only to help students become skilled musicians, but also to help them develop creativity, confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music and artistic expression.
Over the years, I have organized and directed student recitals, prepared students for performances, and helped young musicians build confidence both on and off the stage. Whether a student wants to pursue music seriously or simply learn for enjoyment, I strive to create lessons that are inspiring, supportive, and personalized for every student.
